Director’s Statement

Recently, there was an article that told how the wealthiest places on earth, are neither the oil fields of the Middle East nor the diamond mines of South Africa, but the cemeteries. Buried in the ground are businesses that were never formed, songs that were never sung, books that were never written, potential that was never realized, and dreams that never came to pass! Please, don’t let that be you! Don’t go to your grave with your treasure still in you. Get connected to your Source, keep learning and keep growing. Bring forth the good treasure (vision) that God has placed within you as you nurture your mind with great thoughts knowing that you will never go any higher than you think. Always believe in yourself with the word “Yes, I Can” which was developed by Dr. Leonela Relys Diaz.

Prof. Okey Marcellus Ikeanyibe
Director, Youth friendly Resource Centre
University of Nigeria, Nsukka

Brief History

Youth Friendly Resource Center (YFRC) formerly known as Youth Friendly Center (YFC), UNEC, was a partnership initiative between University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, Ecobank Nigeria Ltd and National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) in the Presidency. The Center (YFC) was closed down in 2012 after six years of service delivery. However with a very high level advocacy team comprised of top management of Ecobank and NACA to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor B.C. Ozumba, Youth Friendly Center (YFC) was re-opened in 2015. The mandate by Vice-Chancellor for the Center to become functional, responsive to the needs of young people and beneficial to all parties, coupled with the recent directive from the Presidency for public tertiary educational institutions to seek partnership with the private sector, necessitated the remodeling of the Center by the Director to what is now known as Youth Friendly Resource Center (YFRC), which the two partners that started the initiative have willingly accepted
