Welcome to Youth Friendly Resource Centre

Director’s Statement

Recently, there was an article that told how the wealthiest places on earth, are neither the oil fields of the Middle East nor the diamond mines of South Africa, but the cemeteries. Buried in the ground are businesses that were never formed, songs that were never sung, books that were never written, potential that was never realized, and dreams that never came to pass! Please, don’t let that be you! Don’t go to your grave with your treasure still in you. Get connected to your Source, keep learning and keep growing. Bring forth the good treasure (vision) that God has placed within you as you nurture your mind with great thoughts knowing that you will never go any higher than you think. Thinkers rule the world. Think God’s thoughts!

Brief History

Youth Friendly Resource Center (YFRC) formerly known as Youth Friendly Center (YFC), UNEC, was a partnership initiative between University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, Ecobank Nigeria Ltd and NACA – National Agency for the Control of AIDS in the Presidency. The Center (YFC) was closed down in 2012 after six years of service delivery. However with a very high level advocacy team comprised of top management of Ecobank and NACA to the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor B.C. Ozumba, the Center was re-opened in 2015. The mandate by Vice-Chancellor for the Center to become functional, responsive to the needs of young people and beneficial to all parties, coupled with the recent directive from the Presidency for public tertiary educational institutions to seek partnership with the private sector, necessitated the restructuring of the Center as well as the expansion of its scope of services. The Center now known as Youth Friendly Resource Center (YFRC) is a youth-connecting and improvement platform driven by public-private partnership. The Center provides an effective and efficient avenue for other sectors of the economy (strategic partners) to join hands with UNN in promoting and providing functional (proper) education to our young undergraduates – education that transforms lives. The kind of formal education the undergraduates receive today is lopsided and irrelevant (industrial age value). It does not stir and inspire the creative man within them. Levels of creativity are progressively falling in formal lecture/classroom settings. YFRC aims to provoke and facilitate a holistic development of the young people in UNN as they receive the best non-formal, extra-curricular services from strategic partners, which complement the formal academic curriculum in equipping them for gainful employment, significant leadership and citizenship roles, boosting their prospect of remaining relevant in this 21st century.
